Morning Prayer for Forgiveness

As you wake up in the morning and feel prompted by the Holy Spirit to ask God for forgiveness, know that this is a beautiful thing. It is a gift to have the chance to forgive, repent, be broken before the Lord, and grow again according to the image of Christ. Colossians 2:6-7 says, “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”

“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”

How do you truly ask for forgiveness?

Praying to God is our source of communion and constant communication with Him.  Communicating to Him to express your sincere apologies for the things you have done wrong is one way to show how sorry you are.

That being said, to truly ask for forgiveness requires more than just words, but it must be shown in our deeds. Repentance or a change of mind that leads to a change of actions is one way to show that we are sincerely sorry to God for the things we have done wrong. Consider a parent who is correcting their child. If the child says sorry and still commits the same mistakes again, the words of apology are meaningless. However, if the child changes their ways and doesn’t do the things that upset the parents, such growth maturation will move your heart.

God wants us to not love in words but in deeds. 1 John 3:18 says, “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” One way to truly ask for forgiveness is by show our sincere regret through a change of thoughts and actions.

“My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.”
