Even though we, as God’s children, have been saved from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light, Satan and the works of evil continue seeking to steal, kill, and destroy (see John 10:10 – The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.). And in our journey with God, we may stumble and fall because of this. As you are here looking for a morning prayer asking God for forgiveness, know that He is faithful and just to forgive you of your wrongdoings. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Morning Prayer Asking for Forgiveness
You can say a morning prayer asking for forgiveness in this manner:
Heavenly Father, thank You for waking me up and blessing me with another morning to do Your will here on earth. As the Holy Spirit convicts me of my wrongdoings, I humbly ask for Your forgiveness, God. Forgive me for (specify the sin or wrongdoing) and for breaking Your heart. Thank You, for I can continue to walk in the victory of Christ Jesus as I move forward, repent, and strengthen my walk with You in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Though God is full of mercy and grace when we stumble and sin, we should also help ourselves by removing anything that keeps us distracted and faltering in our personal relationship with the Lord.
Hebrews 12:1-2 says, “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
We are encouraged to set aside anything that causes us to sin and stumble, even if they are little habits that take away our time from God such as spending a lot of time scrolling through our mobile/tablet, watching television for long hours, meditating on negative things, and overthinking.
To overcome this, keep reading and meditating on God’s Word, for faith comes by continuously hearing it (Romans 10:17 – So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.). Spend more time in mentoring and discipleship programs that help you grow as a believer and communicate with God all the time. The more you set your mind on heavenly things, the less you stumble and fall into sin. After all, the Word of God is a shield of faith and a sword of the Spirit that thwarts all the plans of the enemy.

“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord” Isaiah 54:17

How do you let God know you are sorry?
One way to let God know you are sorry is by communicating it to Him in your morning prayer, as you have already been doing. Prayer is our communication and communion with Him. That is why, as discussed earlier, it is important to spend quality time with God more than on anything and anyone.
Besides praying, one way to truly show God we are sorry is through our change of mind and actions. Repentance is the true evidence we are sorry for our mistakes. God delights in our repentance, for we show Him our sincere love, growth, and maturity when repentance takes place. Consider Zacchaeus, a man known as a corrupt chief tax collector. When he encountered Jesus Christ, and the goodness of God visited his house, he said, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold” (see Luke 19:1-10). God’s kindness, mercy, and grace aren’t meant for us to abuse, but so they can truly move us and change our ways.
And as God is kind, merciful, and full of grace in our lives, He wants us to be the same for others so they, too, can also encounter Christ through us.
