Every day of our lives, we make big or small decisions. Especially when it comes to significant decisions, we must think through and weigh our options carefully. When given multiple good choices, making a decision can be confusing or challenging. However, the Bible says that confusion is not from God. In 1 Corinthians 14:33 (For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints), it is written that God is not a God of confusion but peace.

Morning Prayer for Clarity in Decision-Making
Heavenly Father, I speak peace upon my heart as I make a decision. I pray that You will take the confusion out of me and bring clarity and wisdom to my mind. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What to pray when you don’t know what decision to make
These moments are when we don’t know what decision to make or which is the best option among the options we have. An example of this is a high school student who is choosing which course to take in college. Taking nursing is okay for him, and so are engineering and accounting. He delights in all three fields and therefore finds it challenging to choose which one he wants above all.
In those cases where we don’t know what decision to make, what we ought to pray to God is for clarity. If we are on a journey and we encounter a thick fog that clouds our vision of where we should go, clarity eliminates that thick fog so that we will see which path ahead is the one that we should take.
As you journey through life and encounter moments where it is difficult to make a decision, a good verse to remember is from Psalm 32:8 (I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye). It is written there that God counsels, instructs, and teaches us the way we should go. God watches over us in our journey in life. As we encounter fog from which we have difficulty choosing which path to take, He guides us. One of the ways God guides us is by giving us clarity.

Morning Prayer for Clarity in Decision-Making
There are many ways in which we receive clarity from God. We receive it primarily through reading His Word. In Psalm 119:105 (Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.), God’s Word is described as a lamp to our feet. It lightens up our path so that we know where to go. Also, God can make things clear to you through impressions from the Holy Spirit and any counsel you receive from other people in the church. It is written in Proverbs 11:14 that with no guidance, people fall. But, with an abundance of counselors, there is safety. God can also use circumstances to make things clear for you. One example of that is when some doors are closed.

Morning Prayer for Clarity in Decision-Making
Father in heaven, I thank You because You watch over me and guide me every step of the way. Help me be sensitive to Your leading me to whatever path you are telling me to take. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Morning Prayer for Clarity in Decision-Making
How do I ask God for help in making a decision?
If you need clarity, you ask God for help or clarity by humbling yourself and praying to God. First, it takes humility to admit that we need help from God to clarify things. As we humble ourselves, we present our concerns or need for clarity in prayer to God.
In 1 Peter 5:6-7, it is written that we must humble ourselves before God and cast our anxieties onto Him because He cares for us. Also, in Philippians 4:6-7 it is written that we are to present our prayer requests to God. There, the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, shall guard our hearts and minds.
In other words, we ask God for help in decision-making by asking Him for clarity in prayer. Jesus said in Matthew 7:7-8 that whoever asks and seeks will receive and find.
How do you pray for clarity when making a decision?
How you pray for clarity is very simple. First, you think of what specific thing in your life you have a hard time deciding on. Is it which course to take in college? To buy a house or rent one? To accept a job offer abroad or not? Whatever that specific thing you have difficulty deciding on, lift it toward God and ask Him for clarity.
Of course, as you pray, you can be honest with God. You can tell him your dilemma and what makes it hard to decide. As mentioned a while ago, you humble yourself before God. Then, you ask God to make things clear for you and point you toward the choice that He wants you to make or the wisest one to choose so that He is glorified.
Below is an example of a morning prayer for clarity as you make a decision:
Father in heaven, I have difficulty deciding whether we should buy a house or rent. I don’t know which one would be ideal for our finances down the road. With that, I pray for wisdom and clarity as to which option is the wisest and most beneficial choice. At the same time, we step out in faith and trust You for provision. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Morning Prayer for Clarity in Decision-Making
As God gives you clarity and you learn what decision to make, it takes strength to commit to it, especially if it is not easy. That is also why clarity and strength is also something that you could pray for. Ultimately, every step we take in this journey of life is a step of faith. We continue to move forward, trusting God, Who holds all things together.
