Morning Prayer for Family Journey

Whether you are referring to your family’s life journey or, more literally, a trip your family is taking to another place, we all know that it can be thrilling to be on a journey with your family. It is a blessing from God to be with the ones you love and able to spend time and do things together.

Heavenly Father, thank You for blessing me and my family with a beautiful morning. Thank You that in my family’s journey, You will never leave us or forsake us as we go. You are our present Help at all times, and we look to You as our safe refuge in Christ Jesus. Amen.

Life’s ups and downs are all part of a family’s journey. Some days are good, and some days are bad; sometimes, family members can be loving, and at times they can be toxic. Yet, despite it all, love remains as long as Christ and the love of God are in each member’s heart. During a family journey, this is the word of the Lord: “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee” (Deuteronomy 31:6).

If you are moving to a new place as a family, such a journey can be a great opportunity to start a new life, forget about the past, and simply enjoy the new beginning together. When God closes a chapter of a life, we know that He always opens a better one. As long as you and your family remain in His love, in His Word, and in His presence, no scheme of the enemy can come near your home. He promised in Psalm 91:9-11, “Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”

What can I pray for my family’s journey?

There are many things that you can pray for your family’s journey as you say a morning prayer to God or whenever the Holy Spirit prompts you to pray.

Here are some of the things that you can pray for your family:

1. Pray for divine protection

Psalm 91:1-4

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

It is vital to pray for your family’s protection during the journey, whether you are literally traveling or simply living your family life. After all, we know we are at war with a spiritual enemy who aims to steal, kill, and destroy (see John 10:10) our families. So, declare and pray Psalm 91 as you pray for divine protection for your family.

Heavenly Father, thank You. You keep my family safe from the traps of the enemy. You are our dwelling place, our place of safety and refuge. You cover my family under Your wings and You deliver us from any wicked and evil schemes, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

2. Pray for financial provision

Philippians 4:19

But my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Finances play a big role in a family’s daily journey. And it can’t be avoided that there will be times and seasons when financial matters put you to the test and challenges will be worrisome and stressful. But Philippians 4:19 says that God will supply all your needs in Christ’s glorious riches.

Thank You, Father, for my family shall not lack in finances. You are the GOD Who supplies all our needs, and there is no need to worry or fear anything concerning the future, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

3. Pray for mental health

Isaiah 26:3

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Mental health is crucial to pray for in your family’s journey because the mind is a battleground. An idle mind is the devil’s playground, and any thoughts that are not aligned with the Word of God can be used by the enemy to speak lies and cause fears, worries, confusion, doubts, etc. that can affect physical health. Pray Isaiah 26:3 over your family members, and let Christ strengthen your mind.

Heavenly Father, thank You for drawing my family to Your presence. Their minds are fixed on You and Your Word, giving them perfect peace in Christ Jesus. Amen.

4. Pray for physical health

3 John 1:2

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

Physical health is equally as important as mental, emotional, and spiritual health since our body is the vessel for God’s Spirit. It enables us to do His will and experience life in Christ Jesus here on earth. It is God’s will that your family is healthy physically.

Thank You, God, for the good health of my family. You keep our bodies fit and healthy as we discipline ourselves to take good care of our bodies in Jesus’ name. Amen.

5. Pray for spiritual health

Ephesians 3:14-16

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man

When your spirit is weak, it means the flesh is strong, and when the flesh is stronger than your inner man, it can be difficult to hear God’s voice clearly and discern His perfect will in your everyday decision-making. The prayer of the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 3:14-16 makes a good declaration for your family’s inner man;

Heavenly Father, thank You for strengthening my family’s inner man and giving us healthy spiritual insights out of Your glorious riches and power through the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ name. Amen.

6. Pray for emotional health

Philippians 4:6-7

Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

One of the most powerful tools that can be used against us is our emotions. When our emotional health is in bad shape, just as when our flesh is stronger than our inner man, we can be prone to attacks from the enemy including anxiety, worry, fear, and so on. Philippians 4:6-7 makes a good prayer and reminder that you don’t have to be anxious about anything because God is always there to listen to the requests and cries of the heart.

Thank You, Father, for blessing my family with a peace that transcends all understanding. You guard our hearts and minds as we come to rely on You in all things in Jesus’ name. Amen.

7. Pray for godly connections and friends

Proverbs 13:20

He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

1 Corinthians 15:33

Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

In your family’s journey, meeting new people, whether you move to a new place or not, will always be a part of life. It is vital for your family’s circle of community and friends to be in the same biblical environment so that God is the center of all your divine connections and relationships. Pray that your family will meet and be connected with the kind of people who will influence them to be godly and to know Christ more closely through their fellowship.

Thank You, Lord, for bringing godly people and connections to my family. They shall walk with the wise, and You will protect them against bad company in Jesus’ name. Amen.

8. Pray for your family’s relationship with each other

Ephesians 3:17-19

That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.

A family’s journey may not always be smooth roads and sunshine. There are bad days, dark days, and extremely painful days. That is why it is important to pray for a strong relationship and connection to your family members; to declare Ephesians 3:17-19 upon their lives.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because my family is rooted and grounded in love through Christ Jesus at all times. We are able to comprehend how great Your love is for us, and the fullness of Your Spirit is dwelling in my family’s lives in Jesus’ name. Amen.

9. Pray for constant communication and openness in the family

1 John 1:7

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

When family members are continually communicating with each other and being open and transparent with one another, this exposes any lies and schemes of the enemy and keeps the connection tight and bonded in love. While this may not always be the case for all family members because they may have diverse personalities and characteristics, keep praying for open communication and honesty within the family because such is the will of God. As 1 John 1:7 says, being in fellowship with one another shows we have nothing to hide and that we are in the light of Christ.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the openness and consistent communication in my family. We are in constant fellowship with each other because Your light and love dwell in our home in Jesus’ name. Amen.

10. Pray for your family’s relationship with God

Psalm 16:11

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

One of the most important prayers for your family journey concerns its relationship with God. We know that life and love can truly exist only when God is alive and real in our lives. Pray that your family will continue to know God in Christ Jesus and declare Psalm 16:11 upon their lives.
