Morning Prayer For Family Unity

Unity, much like love, is like a glue that binds a family together. It is the harmony of different characters and personalities, roles, and responsibilities, which, when combined, make up a home. And without unity, the household won’t stand a chance against the storms of life. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 12:25 (And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:) that “every house divided against itself shall not stand.”

Unity is a powerful thing in people’s lives and much more so in a family. That’s why the enemy tries so hard to steal, kill, and destroy unity in every family (see John 10:10 – The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.).

Coming down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard, coming down upon the edge of his robes. It is like the dew of Hermon

Coming down upon the mountains of Zion; For there the LORD commanded the blessing—life forever.”

1. We can experience pleasantness when there is unity.
2. There is anointing when people unite.
3. There is a blessing of the Lord when people unite.

God wants every family to be united, whether biologically, spiritually, institutionally, or even nationally. When we are in unity, it shows we are walking in God’s love, and our relationship and fellowship with others prosper and thrive despite the differences. 

It is important that as a family you spend time meditating and studying God’s Word, which brings guidance, renewal of thoughts and thinking importations of faith, true love, wisdom, corrections, hope, and encouragement. 

“Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man has a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.” – Colossians 3:13

How can there be unity in the family?

As you say a morning prayer for family unity, whether for a biological, spiritual, or institutional family, God hears your prayer and desires that every family be united with each other through Christ Jesus. After all, without Christ and His Word, unity can be counterfeited, just as the Babylonians displeased God when they united to make the Tower of Babel to reach heaven (see Genesis 11:1-9).

For unity to dwell in the family, all members must be rooted in Christ and the knowledge of His Word. For we know that God is love and everyone who loves knows God, for love comes from Him (see 1 John 4:7-8). That being said, not every case is the same, and not all family members and individuals have a relationship with God, are born-again believers, read the Bible, and so on. Thus, as the one who knows Christ and His Word, it is your responsibility to keep praying for your family, demonstrating what the Bible says, and obeying God by being the salt and light in your home. Such is the only way you can preserve unity in the family. And in some cases, separation has to take place in order to fulfill God’s calling and purpose in an individual’s life. Remember, Jesus Christ said, “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law” (Matthew 10:34-35). Having Christ call us and us obeying Him can actually sometimes cause strife and division at home because the truth will always expose the lies and offend the ways of the ungodly. So, as you discern the situation in your family, know that God is able to keep all things that matter to you. Whether your family unites in Christ or divides because of differences in faith and spiritual views, God is sovereign, and He is always able to redeem, save, and restore relationships.

What to do when there is division in the family

As mentioned earlier, the enemy hates unity because there is anointing, blessing, and great joy. When a family is united in Christ Jesus, they greatly impact society, communities, and nations. The family becomes the salt and light of the world that shines by their good deeds and biblical principles, glorifying God in all their ways (see Matthew 5:16 – Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.).

However, as discussed earlier, unity in Christ isn’t always the situation for most families. After all, not all members of the family are born-again believers, have a relationship with God, and know the Word of God. And in most cases, division can take place because of your faith in Christ Jesus. If this is the case, surrender the matter to the Lord and believe that He is faithful to save and redeem your family. But if a division is caused by conflicts, miscommunications, offenses, and unforgiveness, pray these things to the Lord and use your authority against the devil causing division in your family. You can pray, “In Jesus’ name, my family is united in Christ Jesus! I rebuke the works of the enemy in my home and in all members of the family!” 

When the enemy is working against a Christian family, you must take the necessary steps to restore its unity. The Bible says:

1. Privately confront in love a brother or sister who has offended you.

“Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.” – Matthew 18:15

2. Learn to accept each one’s differences.

“Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.” – Romans 15:7

3. Bear with one another and forgive just as Christ has forgiven you.

“Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.” – Colossians 3:13

Know that God has such a wonderful plan and powerful destiny for your family. Keep on praying for it, and don’t give up on doing good. Let your light shine in your home and make Abba Father proud, as He already is!
