The Bible contains everything we need to know as we live. In 2 Timothy 3:16-17, it is written that it is God-breathed and suitable for reproof, correction, and training for righteousness. Whenever we need more clarity, God’s statutes and counsel in the scriptures give us clarity. If we also don’t know how to pray or ask God for clarity, the Bible gives us several examples of how we can pray.
Heavenly Father, I thank You for giving us Your revelation and Word through the Scriptures. Thank You because Your Word guides us, gives us clarity, and teaches us how to pray for clarity. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

How do you get clarity in the Bible?
As mentioned above, the Bible or the Scriptures can give us clarity whenever we need it. It clarifies by telling us what to do and seek as we pray to God. In Psalm 119:105 (Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.), the psalmist describes God’s Word as the lamp for his feet that light up his path. In other words, as we walk through our journey in life with the Scriptures or God’s Word we will have clarity and know what to do every step of the way. That is why in Joshua 1:8, we are taught with the example of Joshua that we ought to meditate on God’s Word day and night.

But how do we get clarity in the Bible or Scriptures when we find ourselves in a situation where we are confused or do not know what to do? We seek counsel from God regarding those matters in which we don’t know what to do or need clarity. For example, if a woman is hard-pressed whether to let an unbelieving yet sweet and loving man from work court her or not. She can seek the scriptures in which she will find God’s counsel.
Just as with the example above, it is written in 2 Corinthians 6:14 (Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?) that believers ought not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, and righteousness and light have no business with lawlessness and darkness. This gives the woman clarity about what she should do about the decision she has to make. That is one example of how we receive clarity from the Scriptures. We receive it as we seek counsel from God’s Word, which is the lamp in front of our feet as we walk through life.

In the Bible, we see that God is a God who counsels His people, and this gives them clarity. In Psalm 73:24, the psalmist writes that with God’s counsel, God will guide him. The same can be said for us as we seek God’s counsel in the Scriptures. Psalm 119:24 (Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counselors.) shows us how the psalmist delights in God’s testimonies and His Word because these are his counselors.

However, there are also situations when we should pray and seek God for clarity. For example, suppose a man is deciding whether to accept a job offer abroad or locally. Both jobs are honest work and honor God; therefore, it is okay for the man to take either of those options. However, when he searches the Bible, nowhere can he find whether a job locally is more honoring to God than the job offer abroad, or vice versa. All that he will be able to find are verses such as 1 Corinthians 10:31 (Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.), which tells him to glorify God in everything that he does.

There is no specific prescription for whether to accept the job offer abroad or the local one, unlike the example of the woman above, where the Bible clearly tells her not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. That is where prayer for clarity comes in. Sometimes, God allows us to decide on our own by applying wisdom. In those times, we still seek God’s counsel in the Scriptures because it is our guiding principle as we decide. It is where wisdom and discernment are applied. That is also why a Morning Prayer for Clarity and Wisdom and a Morning Prayer for Clarity and Discernment make a good combination of prayers.
Father in heaven, I thank You because Your Word is my counselor. Help me to always delight in it and meditate on it day and night. Whenever I need clarity, I pray that it is Your Word and counsel that I will run to first. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

How do you pray to God for clarity using the Scriptures?
There are two ways we pray to God for clarity using the Scriptures. The first is by looking at certain scriptures that show God is a God Who gives counsel, wisdom, and clarity and the One Who guides His people. These verses remind us of who God is—our counselor, the giver of wisdom, and the One Who guides us every step of the way.
When we pray to God for clarity using those scriptures that remind us of Who God is, we can remind ourselves whenever we do not know what to do and need clarity in declaring Who God is in our life. We also speak about Who God is over any situation that needs clarity. For example, let’s say the verse we use is Psalm 32:8, which teaches us that God is the One Who instructs and teaches us which way to go and the One Who counsels us. Below is an example of a morning prayer for clarity using the verse above:
Father in heaven, I thank You because even if I have difficulty deciding which course to take for college, You are the One Who instructs and teaches me the way I should go, and You are the One Who counsels me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
The second way we can pray a morning prayer for clarity with Scripture is by using scripture verses as guides when we pray to God in the morning for clarity. Compared to the first case, where Scripture is directly incorporated into prayer, now we use it as a guide by following its pattern or example. These verses are primary examples of prayers, as in Psalm 143:8, where David prays to God to make known to him the way that he should go. We take that verse and apply its pattern in our prayer with the specific matter we need clarity on. Using Psalm 143:8 as a guide, here is how we can use the verse in a morning prayer for clarity:
Heavenly Father, as I decide which course to take in college, make known to me what kind of career I should follow and where I can be the salt and light. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Which Bible verses are good for morning prayers for clarity?
There are several Bible verses that you can use whenever you pray a morning prayer for clarity. One example is James 1:5, which teaches us that God is a God Who is generous to give wisdom to those who ask in faith. You can incorporate this verse in your prayer by reminding yourself that your heavenly Father, to Whom you are praying, is generous to give wisdom as you need it when making a decision.
Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are the God Who generously gives wisdom to those who ask in faith. I pray for the wisdom and discernment I need as I choose right now. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Another one is Psalm 37:23, which teaches us that the steps of a man are established by God whenever he delights in God’s ways or does that which is honoring to Him. Here is how one can use it when praying for clarity in the morning:
Father in heaven, I thank You because as I make a decision and seek clarity, You are the One Who establishes my steps while I seek to honor You with the decision I am about to make. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
The last example is from Psalm 25:4-5. This is where David prays to God to make His ways known, teach him His paths, and lead him to His truth. It is a fine morning prayer for clarity because knowing God’s ways and paths enables us to see what we should do.
Heavenly Father, as I decide in life, teach me Your paths and make known to me Your ways. May Your ways and paths that are righteous be my guidance as I make decisions in life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Of course, there are many more scriptures that you can use whenever you pray a morning prayer for clarity. We use these scriptures to give us counsel, wisdom, and clarity and to guide and teach us how to pray and ask God for things. Using the scriptures, we remind ourselves of Who God is and use the examples of several Bible characters who also asked God for guidance, wisdom, and clarity. As we pray to God in the morning for clarity, remember that in Christ You have access to His throne of grace so you can ask for help in times of need.
