Morning Prayer For Clarity And Wisdom

As we make decisions in life, it is not just about asking God in which direction He would want us to go. There are circumstances where He gives us the freedom to choose or decide. In such instances, this is where we ought to exercise wisdom. Whenever we make a decision, we have to do it out of fear of the LORD, which is the beginning of wisdom as written in Proverbs 9:10 (The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding).

Heavenly Father, as I make decisions in my life, I pray that they shall always be rooted in my reverential fear of You, by which wisdom begins. I pray that in every choice, my motivation is always to honor You and glorify You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

A powerful morning prayer for wisdom is one in which a person asking for wisdom is doing so in Christ. In other words, if a person is in Christ, his or her morning prayer for wisdom is already powerful. The Bible says that in Christ we receive adoption as God’s children, as written in Ephesians 1:5. As we walk in Christ, being God’s children, we have access to His throne of grace. In Hebrews 4:16 (Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.), it is written that we can be confident to draw before God’s throne of grace and ask Him for grace and mercy in times of need. That is why, when we need wisdom, we can freely approach God and ask Him for it. 

When we pray, there is no other place to source our prayer other than the Word of God or the Scriptures. We pray powerful prayers when we base them on Scripture because it is the Word of God. Also, our prayers are powerful as we pray according to the will of God. We will know what the will of God is through the Scriptures. As written in 1 John 5:14-15, our confidence that God hears our prayer is when we ask according to His will. Last, a powerful prayer is prayed out of faith. Faith is us trusting God, His power, and His wisdom.

In Christ, our prayers are powerful, and we are assured that God hears them all. After all, as written in Ephesians 2:14 (For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;), the dividing wall of hostility between God and us was broken down by Christ when He paid for our sins. 

Father in heaven, I thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to die for our sins on the cross. His finished work on the cross granted us forgiveness, eternal life, and adoption as Your children so we can freely pray and approach Your throne of grace. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

When do you pray for clarity and wisdom?

There are situations in which we pray a morning prayer for clarity and direction or a morning prayer for clarity and guidance. Those are scenarios in which, as we decide, we seek God’s will precisely and ask Him to give us clarity by making known to us which way He would want us to go. An example is when a person seeks God’s will concerning whether he is called into full-time ministry or work in the corporate sector. The person is seeking God as to what his calling is. It could also be when a pastor seeks God for clarity regarding the direction the church should take in world missions.

While there are things in which we should seek God’s will as we plan, there are circumstances in which God enables us to choose on our own. That is why God gives us wisdom to apply. In such a scenario, we pray, ask God for wisdom, and exercise it as we weigh our possible decisions to choose the wisest.

One example of this is a father who is deciding which car to buy. Should it be a pickup truck or a sedan? Which is the most practical way to go with faith in the picture? Is it wise to have a pickup truck even if he does not need cargo space most of the time? Whether he buys a pickup truck or a sedan, neither of those choices dishonors God. Both are within God’s will because he is choosing to buy them from legitimate car dealers with his hard-earned money from work. (If he is buying a stolen car for a low price with stolen money—that is a different story.) 

Another example is when a man chooses between two godly Christian women. Both are within God’s will since God said in His word not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, and both are godly. But this is where wisdom comes in. Is it wise to pursue and marry a godly woman who does not complement or have the same calling as his?

In other words, in the examples we have above, we see it is more about exercising and applying wisdom. 

You may find yourself in a similar situation, where you don’t know which decision to make, and either of the options you have is okay in terms of God’s standards or within His will as you seek God’s Word. In those times, seek God for clarity by asking Him to give you wisdom so you may see which is the wisest decision to make. As you apply wisdom in making a decision, it is always guided by fear of the LORD and the desire to glorify God. It is written in 1 Corinthians 10:31 that we should glorify God in everything we do.

Heavenly Father, I pray that I shall always glorify you in everything that I do, even when it comes to my decisions, whether big or small. Help me apply wisdom, prudence, and discernment. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

You pray in the morning to God for clarity and wisdom by simply asking God for wisdom. Given that you have difficulty deciding pray and ask God to give you wisdom and apply it so that you may choose the wisest and God-honoring decision. You can do this by presenting to God that specific matter for which you need His wisdom and asking God to give you that wisdom. Philippians 4:6-7 tells us that we should present our prayer requests to God. If your concern is wisdom to decide a particular matter, then present that to God.

As you ask God for wisdom, remember to ask God in faith. In James 1:5-6, it is written that God gives wisdom generously to those who ask Him, but we should ask in faith. It is the confidence that we have that whenever we do not know or are having a hard time deciding, God will give us the wisdom we need to apply and decide wisely.

Whether it is direction, guidance, or wisdom, it is God to Whom we should run first. However, we should also note that God can speak through what He impresses on us through the Holy Spirit and the counsel that our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ give us. Our comfort is that whatever decision or path we end up with, Christ is our shepherd, Who always holds us every step of the way.
