Morning Prayer For Toddlers

Despite toddlers being about 2-3 years of age, we can still teach them how to pray in the morning for God. Though we are more likely to teach them at an age when their brains are more developed, and they are more aware of their surroundings, such as at age 3, the Bible teaches us in (Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6) that we are to train children how they should go and that they should not depart from it. If we want them to become prayerful men and women at an early age, we should teach them how to pray.

Father in heaven, we thank You because you have shown through Christ that you have a heart for children and that You don’t hinder them from coming to you through Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What is a good children’s prayer?

A good children’s prayer in the morning is one that they can easily follow. That means morning prayers for nursery children should be concise and straightforward, particularly for toddlers. Similar to adults, we pray to God to communicate with Him. The same thing applies to morning prayers for toddlers. The main focus of morning prayers for toddlers is to achieve communication with God. Just as toddlers communicate with their parents, i.e., “Mama, I want some candy,” the same simple communication applies when teaching toddlers how to pray. However, we are instead teaching them how to communicate with God.

While it is not yet the right time to bombard toddlers with theology and all that entails, we insert biblical themes in the prayers we teach them. We teach them prayers that ask God, thank God, and tell God about anything, just as they tell their parents about anything.

Below are some prayer examples:

“Father God, thank You for the candy that aunt Jude gave me last week. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.”

As you have observed in the given prayers, the context is about matters that toddlers may encounter at a young age. It could be as simple as toys, candies, and other things that toddlers encounter in their day-to-day lives. The sample prayers are simple, yet they embody the essence of faith in God and gratitude toward Him.

How do you pray in the morning for kids?

Following what we mentioned above, toddlers still can’t pray independently. You must guide them and teach them how to pray constantly. That is a crucial stage of learning for them. It means that toddlers can learn and pray to God if anyone or their parent/s are there to say the prayer they are teaching the toddler and ask the toddler to repeat after them. The prayers in which you lead, guide, and teach them are prayer concerns that they have, such as the candy they receive or a toy they want, etc.

The third sample prayer above is more of eliciting rather than teaching and guiding. You don’t pray and ask toddlers to follow you. Instead, you should encourage the toddler to tell God whatever they want. No matter how funny or silly what they tell God may be, it’s okay. The goal here is to teach them to commune with God

Remember that the goal is to teach the children how to communicate with God and remind ourselves that we should communicate with God. We teach them simple things we should communicate to God, such as giving thanks, depending on God, and pouring out to Him, as written in ( In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18), Matthew 7:7-8 and Philippians 4:6-7.
