The best way to start your day is with a prayer and in this post you will learn how to do morning prayer. Praying to God at the moment you wake up not only gives you peace and joy, but protection against all kinds of schemes the enemy is planning for the day. When you start your day with God, you choose to be led by the Spirit and not by your flesh. So, how do you offer a morning prayer? Morning prayer is as simple as greeting God, thanking Him for the life He has given you, and praising Him for the beautiful day He has set ahead of you. You can say, “God, thank You for waking me up. I am blessed once again to journey through life with You today.” You can also say a prayer that contains your heart’s requests for the day. You can pray in this manner:
Heavenly Father, thank You for waking me up. Thank You for giving me another day. I surrender this day to you and open my spiritual senses to your voice, so that I may obey You. May Your will be done today, Father. And may You be glorified in my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

It is important to always begin the day with God. After all, God is the only source of peace, safety, and security in this world. Outside of His presence, there’s no life at all. Moreover, to do a morning prayer, you can start by reading the Word of God. Reading the Scripture at the moment you wake up is a powerful thing, because you are setting your mind on the things above, on the promises of God, and on feeding your spirit with spiritual food. Reading God’s Word at the start of the day empowers your inner soul and increases your discernment concerning the will of God.
Other than reading the Word of God, you can also add them to your prayer. Praying the Scripture is powerful because you are declaring God’s very own words. This is a powerful way to start your day by declaring and praying the Scripture. If you wonder what Scriptures can be good for morning prayer, you can look through the Book of Psalms, which contains many Scriptures about praising and giving thanks to the Lord. It also contains encouragement, hope, wisdom, and insights that you can start declaring first thing in the morning.
Here is a prayer from Psalm 27:13-14: “I had fainted unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for this beautiful morning. It is a privilege to wake up once again in Your presence. I know that I will see your goodness in the land of the living. I will not give up, for You always strengthen my heart. Thank You, for I can trust in You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
What to say at the beginning of a prayer
As some of the prayers given as examples above, you will observe how we always say thank You to God at the beginning of prayer. This is one of the best things you can speak to your Heavenly Father as you pray in the morning. When you are grateful to Him for waking you up, for protecting you and your family for the night, for another day’s blessings, and so on, you are acknowledging who God is in your life. When you acknowledge God, Proverbs 3:5-6 says that He will direct your steps throughout the day. What can go wrong when you have God leading you on the right path each day as you acknowledge Him from the moment you wake up?
Moreover, you can also offer a prayer of praise and adoration to God’s character, in addition to thanking Him. Lifting up His name and exalting God in your prayer at the start of the day is a powerful way to begin your day. It’s also like saying to your spiritual enemies, “If you touch me, you must go through Him who is mighty, victorious, and powerful. You will never win against God.” Exalting God in prayer declares His power, His victory, His sovereignty, goodness, faithfulness, kindness, and mercy in Christ Jesus above anything else. You may have problems, struggles, and setbacks, but God is above all of it.
Also, you can begin your prayer by praising God and adoring His beauty and majesty. Praising God sets a great mood and atmosphere when you begin the day like this. Praising and worshiping God from the moment you wake up is a powerful way to eliminate negativity, a gloomy atmosphere, and anything that is not from Him. Praise and worship attract His presence, and anointing occurs when you begin to praise God for who He is.
Jesus Christ was the One who taught us to pray in this manner (see Luke 11:1-13). He revered God, our Heavenly Father, at the beginning of His prayer. It isn’t a good start to wake up and greet God with the things that worry you, make you anxious, or frighten you because this shows that you have more trust in your fears than in God’s ability and capability to rescue, heal, save, and defend you. Jesus taught us that the first thing to say in prayer is reverence for God. When we revere and acknowledge God at the start of the day, it shows that our faith lies in Him alone.
To recap, here are some of the things you can say to God at the beginning of your prayer:
- Begin by exalting God and lifting up His name.
- You can also begin with thanksgiving and gratitude for all the things God has done and will do throughout the day.
- You can worship God, adore Him and praise Him for who He is at the start of your prayer.
While these are some things to say to God at the beginning of your prayer, you can also say all three simultaneously. It doesn’t matter. Just give God all the glory and honor as you begin the day with a prayer.
How do you begin a prayer?
As discussed earlier, you should always begin a prayer by revering God, honoring Him, exalting Him, praising Him, and thanking Him. This is the way Jesus taught us to pray to our Heavenly Father. If you are praying personally in your room, you can begin with quietness, a stillness of mind and heart, along with your praises and thanksgiving unto the Lord. Sometimes, you may also play worship and praise music to magnify and exalt God’s beauty and wonders. Suppose you are praying publicly for morning prayer. In that case, your prayer may sometimes depend on how the Holy Spirit is leading you to pray because when you are with hearers of the Word, the Holy Spirit takes every opportunity to capture their souls back to the Lord. Sometimes, before you say a prayer, He may lead you to read a Scripture first and then pray the Scripture. For instance, He may lead you to the Scripture, John 10:10: The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
As you read it, you can say the prayer in this manner:
Heavenly Father, we are grateful that Your will through Christ Jesus is to give us life and have it more abundantly. It is Your will for us to live an abundant life. Your plan is not to destroy us, kill us, or steal any good things in our life because such are the works of the enemy and not Yours. So, as we begin our day, we thank You and praise You for the victory and abundant life that we have in Christ Jesus. Amen.
As you obey the Holy Spirit, you may never know if someone out there listening may be believing the enemy’s lies that God is the one causing misery in their lives. However, through your prayers, the lies get exposed, and you can impart truth to the hearers. Sometimes, the Holy Spirit shows you things you need to pray for that might specifically minister to people who are listening. All you need to do is follow and obey the promptings of God in your life as you pray.
Prayers led by the Holy Spirit have a great impact and are powerful in shaking the kingdom of darkness and advancing the Kingdom of light.
May the Lord bless you and powerfully use you as you seek Him early in the morning when you wake up. May the Holy Spirit guide you in your prayers and bless the heart of the Father in Christ Jesus.
