Morning Prayer for Favor

God’s favor doesn’t fall randomly on anyone but is a gift to those who look to Him and believe in His Word. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God…” Ephesians 2:8. While it is God’s desire for all to be saved, His eternal promise will only work in favor of those who have faith in His Begotten Son, Jesus Christ (see John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.).

Heavenly Father, thank You for blessing me and favoring me as I wake up today. I am blessed that You are my good Heavenly Father, who does not withhold any good thing from me. Thank You for allowing me to ask You for anything, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Depending on what kind of favor you are asking for, God’s favor can mean salvation for a loved one, a promotion at work, a recognition award in school, a financial breakthrough, and so much more.

For instance, in the Bible, because of Abraham’s faith and friendship with God, Lot was granted a favor when Abraham asked God to save his nephew from the coming destruction in Sodom and Gomorrah (see Genesis 18).

God’s favor is given to those who have a relationship with Him. While everyone can be your friend, most people will only give special favor to those who have close relationships with them and who have truly earned their trust. 

However, as Christians, we obey God when He tells us whom to favor, whether it is a close friend, a stranger, or even an enemy. We obey God because we trust Him and have a personal relationship with Him. We know our obedience to Him will always bring the best results.

Psalm 5:12 says, For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favor wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

How do you pray for favor?

Saying a morning prayer for favor to God is one way to receive what you are asking for. 

Asking God for favor is the only way to pray for favor. Matthew 7:7 says, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you…” Just as you would ask a friend for a favor, you may also ask a favor from God in the same manner. For instance, you can pray to God for the favor of good weather on your weekend (Morning Prayer for Weekend) trip. All prayers asked according to His will will be answered in the name of Jesus.

Sometimes, God favors His children even without them asking Him for a favor. He does things beautifully, and you’ll be amazed by what He is doing in your life.  

Consider the life of young David, who was tending sheep. He was a young boy who had a deep relationship with the Lord. When the prophet Samuel came to his house and met his brothers, who were presented as candidates for the king of Israel by Jesse, their father, they weren’t chosen by God. Samuel instead sent for David, the youngest of all, for He had been chosen by God to be anointed as King of Israel (see 1 Samuel 16).

Having a relationship with God is all that matters. Asking your Heavenly Father for favor is as simple as directly saying it to Him in prayer without any hesitation. 

He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? – Romans 8:32

What Psalm can I read about favor? 

Waking up every morning and knowing that you have the Heavenly Father, who is always there for you, is the biggest favor and gift that His children could ask for. As mentioned earlier in Psalm 5:12, God favors and blesses the righteous. We are so blessed to have been made righteous children of God by our faith in Christ Jesus.

There are many other Psalms that you can read about God’s favor. 

• Psalm 90:17 is a good read and makes for a great prayer for students, professional workers, and anyone who is at work. It is a prayer asking God to prosper the work of our hands. 
• Psalm 84:11 is another great prayer and meditation that God’s favor and honor will come to those who walk uprightly. If you live according to God’s will, ways, and principles, you can expect His favor to come upon you.
• Psalm 30:5 is a great source of encouragement that even though we may sometimes face challenges in life, God’s favor and joy lasts for a lifetime.

As you partner with the Holy Spirit in your Bible reading, allow Him to lead you to specific Scriptures that will speak to you, not just those in the book of Psalms. Allow Him to let God’s Word minister to your soul and renew your mind according to His perfect will in Christ Jesus.
