Morning Prayer For Family Kindness

Kindness is one of the manifestations of the fruit of the Holy Spirit (see Galatians 5:22-23 – 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.). It is an important practice and part of our lifestyle and character as God’s children and people. Heavenly Father, thank You for blessing my family and me with another morning. As we bask in Your love, grace, and mercy today, thank You for the fruit of kindness that will be produced in my family as we come to experience Your goodness in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Kindness is a powerful weapon against the kingdom of darkness. After all, it is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. When you show kindness in seemingly difficult situations, such as toward an enemy in need, it can bring change or repentance in one’s heart and mind. 

Jesus Christ said we are to love our enemies, pray for those who persecute us, bless those who curse us, and do good to those who hate us (see Matthew 5:43-48). While we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8 – But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.). In the same manner, God’s kindness upon us changes our minds and hearts, leading to true repentance.

“Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?” – Romans 2:4

How can the fruit of kindness manifest in my family?

You don’t get angry in return but instead, you pray for this person as you patiently control your own thoughts and emotions. Another example would be when a family member is sick—kindness is being there for them despite your own hectic schedule.

The Holy Spirit will give you wisdom, discernment, and insight into situations in your home that cause you to produce the fruit of kindness in your family. And as salt and light of the world, your words and actions of kindness will begin to impact your family members, your family as a whole, and your home. By your godly example, along with the help and conviction of the Holy Spirit for your family, it will begin to change little by little.

Seeds of kindness may take time to grow. Our world isn’t so familiar with love and goodness that anything negative doesn’t easily grow and ripen fast. But heavenly seeds sometimes take time to grow, and that’s okay. Don’t give up, and keep on praying.

How can I show kindness in the family when it is difficult?

Things won’t go well within the family all the time. Sometimes, the worst situations and heartaches may come from our homes. As Christians, we are expected by God to be led by the Holy Spirit. A life filled with His Spirit through daily meditation and study of the Word and its application will produce the fruit of the Spirit in our lives.

Galatians 5:22-23 says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” When situations are challenging at home, the flesh will always look at things negatively, which causes you to react negatively. But being led by the Holy Spirit means having a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7 – For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind), a guarded heart (Proverbs 4:23 – Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.), and eyes fixed on Christ, which result in having peace of mind and heart at all times (Isaiah 26:3 – Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.). It is important that you diligently and consistently pursue God, the things of God, and His Word. The more you focus on heavenly things, the more kindness will come out naturally in your life, even in seemingly difficult situations—not just in your home but wherever you go. 

When God’s Word guards your heart and mind, you can clearly discern and hear the voice between the flesh and the Spirit; this gives you insight and wisdom on how to respond to negative things in your family, and that glorifies God.

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” – Hebrews 4:12
