Morning Prayer for a Family’s Long-Distance Relationship

Having a long-distance relationship with your loved ones can be challenging and sometimes painful when loneliness hits you. Despite the advances in technology and online communication tools such as Zoom, Messenger, WhatsApp, and the like to connect families who are living apart, nothing beats the physical presence and touch of those you love. Still, we can be grateful for what technology has brought into our lives.

As you are here looking for a morning prayer for your family’s long-distance relationship, know that Abba Father is always with you. He knows your longings, and He is always there listening to the cries of your heart. Here is a prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for always being there for me and my family despite our long-distance relationship. Thank You that even though we are miles apart, Your love continues to grow deeply into our hearts through Christ, and it’s all that matters in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Because of family situations such as financial matters, immigration document problems, or custody and legal matters, people are sometimes forced to live far away from their families. Whatever your case may be, know that you are not alone in going through such a thing. The Apostle Peter encouraged the believers to be strong in their faith and to resist the lies and works of the enemy because all believers in the world are going through the same suffering.

“Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world”

1 Peter 5:9

Living far away from those you love can sometimes make you feel sad, depressed, and lonely. And the enemy can sometimes use that as an opportunity to speak lies and feed you with thoughts that are depressing and heartbreaking. That is why you must consistently and continuously study and meditate on God’s Word, for it is a powerful tool against the works of darkness; it is the Sword of the Spirit.

“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand”

Ephesians 6:11-13

What can you pray for family members who live a long distance away?

As you say a morning prayer for your family’s long-distance relationship, there are many things the Holy Spirit will show you as to what to pray for such family members.

Here are some of the things that you can pray for family members who live far away:

1. Protection and safety

Because a family member is away, you can’t help but sometimes worry about their whereabouts and day-to-day journeys. But we praise God because He is always near us and there’s no long distance in the spirit realm. You can always come to God to pray for their protection and safety every day. You can pray Psalms 91 and receive the promise of God’s divine protection for your loved ones.

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday”

Psalm 91:1-6

2. Godly friends and company

It is important for our families to be surrounded by good people, specifically godly company and friends who will contribute to their growth and character as well as their relationship with God. (Proverbs 12:26 The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.) says that the righteous choose their friends carefully; Proverbs 18:24 says that one who has unreliable friends may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. So, pray for your family that they may choose their circle wisely as they live a long distance.

3. Strength

Isaiah 40:31 says, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Strength plays a vital aspect in our daily life. It can be physical strength but also mental, emotional, or spiritual strength. All these are important for accomplishing our day-to-day mission here on earth and in doing God’s will for our lives. Pray for your family’s strength as it can be more challenging to live away from those you love. Cover them in prayers and declare the strength of God.

Isaiah 40:31 says, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

4. Peace of mind

Living away from your spouse, children, parents, or siblings can be challenging mentally and emotionally as well. In fact, the mind tends to be a constant battleground, especially for those whose spouse is working abroad. Whatever your case may be, declare the peace of God upon your family’s minds and hearts. Jesus Christ said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” John 14:27.

5. Wisdom

We know that every day involves decision-making, and it can be challenging when your family and loved ones are away at the times when you need them the most for their guidance and advice. So, continuously pray for your long-distance family members that God will always give them the wisdom that they need, especially in tough situations. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

6. Constant communication and openness

When a family has a long-distance relationship with each other, constant communication and openness are crucial for connection and even protection since openness can expose the plans and lies of the enemy. Pray that your family’s communication line will stay open and consistent. You can declare and speak life, such as “In Jesus’ name, my family’s communication line shall be kept open and transparent! Let there be no interception from the enemy!” Proverbs 18:21 says that there is power in your words. So pray with authority and speak life into your family.

The list goes on as you partner with the Holy Spirit in praying for your family’s long-distance relationship. Yield to the Holy Spirit always and pray whenever He prompts you to.

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints”

Ephesians 6:18
