Morning Prayer For Church Service Lesson

The sermon is one of the most important aspects of any church service. After all, there is no fellowship of believers if there are no Scriptures on which the fellowship is centered. If Christians talk about the things of God when they have coffee or a time of casual fellowship, how much greater will the effect be during a Sunday church service where it is centered on the Word of God? First, we have to understand the vitality of preaching God’s Word. It is written in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 that the Scriptures are God-breathed. It is profitable to teach, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness so that we may grow in faith and be ready for good work. Also, it is through the Scriptures that God works and moves in our hearts. It is written in Hebrews 4:12-13 that the Word pierces through the soul and spirit. Why should I pray for our church service lesson?

It is essential to pray for your church service lesson or the truth being preached, as the Holy Spirit works in the heart of the people. That is why, even if a person is not an eloquent communicator, they can still preach a mighty sermon where the believers are caused to repent, evaluate their lives, and be encouraged and ministered to because it is the Holy Spirit who works within them.

We can apply the same thing to the preaching of the Gospel. We can pray for the Holy Spirit to work in the heart of the person we preach the Gospel to so that the seed we planted shall grow and bear fruit. However, that is not our work anymore; instead, God’s work causes things to grow.
