Morning Prayer For Forgiveness In The Family

Because of each family member’s flaws and weaknesses, we often find ourselves having to choose between forgiving and staying offended, holding on to unforgiveness. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 18:7, “Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!” We are required to forgive anyone who offends us and inflicts pain in our lives, including our family members.

No family is perfect, and as long as you keep a forgiving heart, love will always win. You can say a morning prayer for forgiveness in the family in this manner:

Heavenly Father, I praise and bless Your name in the morning. As I think about the conflict in the family, I thank You for giving each one a forgiving and merciful heart. May the love of Jesus Christ reign in our minds and hearts in Jesus’ name. Amen.

What does God say about when your family hurts you?

When you constantly pray for and declare forgiveness for your family, not just in the morning but any time the Holy Spirit prompts you, you are sure to see the victory of Christ in your situation.

Know that it isn’t God’s will for family members to hurt one another. It isn’t His will for any form of abuse and torment – physical, mental, emotional, and even spiritual – in the family. God’s only command for us when someone offends our hearts is to forgive them (For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: Matthew 6:14). Jesus Christ also said to bless those who curse you, pray for those who persecute you, and do good to those who hate you (see Luke 6:28-30). Unfortunately, some of these are people who come from within your family.

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: Matthew 6:14

It is important to know the extent of pain being inflicted on you when a family member keeps hurting you. When any form of abuse is involved, it is best to seek help from a godly community, such as a pastor or someone you can trust. Don’t keep all the pain to yourself, and get a godly partner or mentor for accountability and discipleship.

How do you resolve family conflict biblically?

As you have been praying for forgiveness in your family, know that such a pure act of love is already a way to resolve family conflict. Prayer paves the way for forgiveness as it opens up the heavens and causes a change in the spirit’s realm.

Besides prayer, another way to resolve family conflict biblically is through a loving confrontation. It is important to communicate with that family member about the offense done so that any lies and works of the enemy will be exposed. Jesus Christ said, “Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.” (Matthew 18:15).

Nothing is too difficult for the Lord. He is able to work all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 and Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me? Jeremiah 32:27). Don’t give up praying for your family, and stay rooted in the victory of Christ Jesus. Continue to deepen your relationship with God and meditate on His Word.
