Morning Prayer for Business Leaders

Businesses change and make a significant impact on the world. Whether it’s a small business or a global one, a business can influence others and cause significant changes in people’s lives. For example, people once used pagers and telephones to communicate, but now we can easily communicate using our smartphones, thanks to the companies who innovated such technology. Therefore, we ought to pray for business leaders. They are the ones who are at the top or at least influential in the businesses they are leading. This is also why, if we have concerns or prayer requests regarding our nation’s business leaders, we can read Philippians 4:6-7, which tells us that we are to present these requests to God, and His peace, which transcends all understanding, shall guard our hearts and minds.

Heavenly Father, You work all things according to the counsel of Your Will. I pray for our nation’s business leaders that You will use them to benefit the common good. Thank You because You are sovereign to use them to accomplish Your will. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

How do you pray for business leaders?

Praying for business leaders is like praying for those in the government, such as the president, senators, and congresspeople because the influences and impact they have can be comparable to that of the government. Business leaders are vital people, meaning it is greatly beneficial for expanding God’s kingdom and the common good of the people if you have God-fearing business leaders who follow Christ. Also, the grace that those in Christ receive differs from that of those who aren’t. That is why one of our primary prayers is for them to know and surrender their lives to Christ. In John 14:6, Jesus said that the only way to the Father is through Him—no one and nothing else. Also, it is written in Titus 2:11-12 that it is only by God’s grace that we can live godly and upright lives. In other words, we can have godly business leaders only if they encounter Christ.

Praying for business leaders is like praying for the officials in the government, and there are two steps that you can take as a guide. The first is to identify which specific prayer points are the most important ones to address. For example, compared to hearing the Gospel and knowing Christ, having good health or protection is somewhat less vital. The next step is to think about the essential things that leaders need. Some examples are wisdom, understanding, and competence. Once you have thought about those needs, you can pray for God’s grace for those business leaders and for their needs to be met.

Here is an example of the morning prayer for business leaders to know Christ and fear God.

Father in heaven, You are the God Who opens the eyes of the blind. I pray for the business leaders of my nation that they shall have the opportunity to hear the Gospel and know Christ. As they do this, open their spiritual eyes and soften their hearts so they may see their need for Christ, repent, and follow Him. As they follow Christ, I pray they will be God-fearing business leaders who will conduct their businesses righteously and work to expand Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Another prayer that you can pray for business leaders is for God’s common grace and mercy so that administrators may have wisdom as they lead their businesses. The Bible says in Matthew 5:45 that God makes the sun shine on both the righteous and the wicked. That means God extends grace, to a certain extent, even to unbelievers. He also shows mercy to everyone, as written in Psalm 145:9, and goodness, which also includes unbelievers. That is why even some non-Christians prosper because of God’s grace to them. Leading a business is not an ordinary task. Managers are carrying a responsibility on their shoulders that they have to bear. That is why we are to pray for God’s grace that they have the wisdom they need to lead their business wisely, righteously, and excellently. However, this does not mean that we should stop praying and desiring for them to hear the Gospel; the grace and mercy in Christ for believers is greater than the grace and mercy that unbelievers receive.

Heavenly Father, You are the God from Whom all wisdom comes. I pray for Your grace and mercy upon our business leaders; that You would give them the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding they need to be excellent leaders of their businesses. Grant them wisdom so that You may use them and their business for Your sovereign care of the world. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Why is it important to pray for business leaders?

Praying for business leaders such as the CEOs, presidents, and other people who are in top positions in their companies and have influence over their businesses is like praying for those in the government because, as mentioned a while ago, businesses make an impact comparable to that of the government. The only difference is that the government is the appointed authority over us. 

If you look around, most of what we have and the changes we have in our lives are due to businesses–-the cars we use, the appliances we have, the construction of our houses, the planes that we take to other places, etc. Just as we intercede for the government to be God-fearing and do its jobs excellently by keeping peace and order, we pray for business leaders to always be righteous in their dealings. What they do will significantly affect us, whether for good or bad. No wonder 1 Timothy 2:1 instructs us to pray and make supplications for all people. It means that we also intercede, pray, and make supplications for business leaders.

If we want businesses that are just, honest, and a blessing to the people, we should pray for those that influence those businesses. That is also why we should continue to pray for God’s mercy and grace upon them–-it is only by God’s grace and mercy that they can keep their integrity, know and follow Christ, and have the wisdom to lead excellently.
