Come to God When You Are Afraid

Are you feeling condemned by your wrongdoings yesterday? Do you find it hard to pray to God in the morning because of the things you did yesterday? Have you been struggling with how to come to God when you are afraid of Him because of something you did?

Condemnation is never a part of God’s plan. God will not condemn you for things you have done wrong. If you remember the famous story in the Gospel of an adulterous woman who was supposed to be stoned to death, according to Jewish law, Jesus did not condemn that woman. Instead, He told her not to sin anymore and then let her go (John 8:1-11).

If Jesus did not condemn the adulterous woman, then neither will he condemn you for your past sins. Once you have confessed your sins to God, He no longer remembers them. God does not dwell on your past mistakes. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

The ways for you to come to God in the morning without fear and without being condemned for your past mistakes include the following:

  1. Meditate on 1 John 1:9. Be confident that once you have confessed your sins to God, He has already forgiven you, and will no longer remember your sins because God is faithful.
  2. Do not entertain the condemning voice, as it is never the voice of God to condemn. It is the enemy who plants fear in your heart, which will prevent you from coming to God for the day.
  3. Remember that fear is not of God. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
  4. The blood of Jesus Christ is enough to make you clean. The blood of Jesus paid for your sins, but not believing in that power is a form of unbelief.

As you put these rules into practice, you will soon see yourself coming boldly before Your Heavenly Father, who truly loves and cares for you.
