As we are a church community, God has called us to be a spiritual family for each other as believers. In Colossians 3:12-14, the apostle Paul teaches the church in Colossae that, being God’s chosen ones, they should always show compassion and kindness to others. They are always to be humble and meek and to continuously put on love. We should also do the same for our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, and one of the ways that we can do that is by praying for their comfort whenever they are going through trials.
Heavenly Father, You have shown me mercy and compassion; I pray that You would also stir up love and compassion in me as I pray for my friend who is going through trials. Help me to reflect the character of Christ to him and show him brotherly love. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Morning Prayer for Comfort for a Friend
What is a good prayer of comfort?
A good prayer of comfort that you can pray in the morning for your friend comes from the Bible. There is no greater source of comforting words and counsel than the Scriptures. They tell us Who God is in times of trials and the promises that He has given us. In Psalm 119:50 (This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.), the psalmist tells us that he has comfort in times of affliction with God’s promises that give life.

You can find a comforting Bible verse and then incorporate that into your morning prayer for your friend. Below are several examples of morning prayers of comfort using Bible verses.
The first one is from 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, which tells us that God is the One Who comforts us in times of afflictions and the God of mercy Who gives us the mercies that we need.
Father in heaven, You are the God of comfort and the Father of mercies. I pray for my friend (name of the person). I thank You because You are the One Who comforts him. Give him the mercies that he needs as he goes through tough times. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Morning Prayer for Comfort for a Friend
The second one is from Psalm 23:6. It tells us that for those who are in Christ – who are the sheep of Christ – goodness and lovingkindness shall always follow them for the rest of their lives, even in times of trials.
Lord Jesus, I thank You because You are my friend’s shepherd; the One Who guides him and leads him in this season of pain. Remind him every day that whatever trials he may experience, your goodness and lovingkindness are always following him, no matter what. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

The last example is Psalm 27:1, which tells us that God is our light and salvation, the One Who rescues us. God is the stronghold of our life. Because of that, we have nothing to fear, no matter what we face.
Father in heaven, I thank You because You are the stronghold of (name of friend) ‘s life. Thank You because You are the One Who will rescue him. Remind him that as he faces storms in life, You are the stronghold of his life, and because of that, he has nothing to be afraid of. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Morning Prayer for Comfort for a Friend
If your friend is not a Christian, then the best prayer you can pray for him or her is for their salvation. The worst problem they need comfort with is the problem of sin, and they can find comfort and a solution only in Christ. Below is an example of a morning prayer that you can pray for your unbelieving friend.
Holy Spirit, I pray for (name of the friend) that You will work in his heart as I preach the Gospel to him. Turn his heart of stone to a heart of flesh and open his spiritual eyes so that he may see his need for Christ and repent. Thank You because no one is too far from Your grace. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What to say to a friend who needs prayers
As you pray for your friend’s comfort every morning, you can let your friend know from time to time that you remember them. You can ask them how they are doing and tell them that you are praying for them. Something like “Hey there! How are you doing? I hope you are staying strong. I prayed for you just this morning” would suffice. Of course, you can go the extra mile and even do short exhortations.
The Bible summarizes the commandments into two; the first is to love God, which should result in doing the second commandment, which is to love others. Jesus said that the world would know that we are His disciples by the way we love each other. It is imperative that when we love each other as brothers and sisters in Christ, we are to comfort one another in times of suffering.
