Morning Prayer for Family Values

Family values play a big role in the betterment of communities, societies, and the world. Spiritual values, social values, character values, work values, and home values—these things are passed down from the family to a child and become a personal structure, function, role, belief, attitude, and ideal.

You can say a morning prayer for family values in this manner:

Heavenly Father, thank You for this beautiful day. Thank You for blessing my family with godly values and principles that glorify Your name. My family makes a greater impact, not only on the world’s societies but also on the advancement of Your Kingdom in Jesus’ name. Amen.

It is important for us as children of God that our values, beliefs, character, and principles in life are renewed and aligned according to God’s Word. Romans 12:2 says, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

For instance, while family values ought to please others and our family, the Bible says we are to please God more than men. The Apostle Paul, who was a bearer of Christ and preacher of the Gospel, said, “For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ” (Galatians 1:10).

The fear of the Lord in our lives causes us to lose our fear of men, and that includes displeasing them for the sake of Christ.

Our values and principles as born-again believers change because of the Lordship of Christ Jesus, Whose standards are contrary to what we have learned from the world. And ultimately, our passion and calling is to walk in obedience to God and love Him above all else. The values and principles we have learned and this world has taught us have been passed down to our families; these must be renewed and realigned to God’s Word. There’s no rebirth in the Spirit if we stick to the old systems and values imparted by the world.

Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:22, “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.” Once we live as Jesus and follow His ways and principles as a family, we can expect persecution and hate from the world because of His name.

Matthew 10:22, “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.”

What Christian values can I pray for my family?

As believers of Christ, we are to renew our minds according to the ways of the Bible instead of the ways of the world and the things we have learned through tradition.

As born-again Christians, we are intent on following Christ, and our core values are aligned with His lifestyle. This sometimes offends the ungodly.

As you say a morning prayer for family values, here are some Christian values that you can pray and declare for your family:

1. Loving God and others

Matthew 22:37-39 says, “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”

This is one of the greatest values that a Christian can move into—to love God first and second, to love one’s neighbor as him/herself. When a family holds these values and practices them daily, this has a powerful impact on the advancement of God’s kingdom and toward bringing about heaven on earth.

2. Fear of the Lord

Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”

When a family fears and reveres God, its members make a greater impact on this world through the divine wisdom they are receiving. After all, our families have daily decision-making that can break chains, shine the light of Christ, and transform lives when they honor and fear God in all things that they do.

3. Generosity

Proverbs 11:25 says,The liberal soul shall be made fat: And he that watereth shall be watered also himself.”

Generosity is heaven’s currency aside from faith. When a family values generosity above selfishness, it not only prospers materially but each member flourishes. And when each soul is healthy, the family is in good health as well—emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and physically.

4. Peacemaker

Matthew 5:9 says, “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”

Being a peacemaker means you build bridges instead of burning them and connect with people instead of causing division.

When a family is a peacemaker, God uses it powerfully by making divine connections and expanding His kingdom through prospering relationships through Christ Jesus. And God can move mightily toward the family’s peace-loving character.

5. Obedience to God

Matthew 12:50 says, “For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”

Obeying God can mean sacrificing an amount of money to help a family in need (Morning Prayer for a Family in Need). It can sometimes mean setting aside your family’s leisure time to minister to the broken-hearted.

When we obey the will of God for our lives, both individually and as a family, it truly pleases Him, and we make the enemy tremble for we are a threat to the kingdom of darkness.

How do I practice Christian values in my family?

We have listed some Christian values that you can pray for your family, but the most important part of your faith walk with God is putting your faith into action.

You can practice Christian values at home by doing what the Bible says. For instance,  a family cannot walk on smooth roads all the time. Sometimes, conflicts (Morning Prayer for Family in Conflict) may arise. And in challenging times, Colossians 3:13 says, “Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.” To put this into practice, you must forgive that family member and bear the difficult characters and personalities that may be yet in progress in their walk with God. Also, during family reunions (Morning prayer for Family Reunion), you can apply Ephesians 4:2 upon a taunting relative: “With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love.”

It is vital to let the Holy Spirit lead you and your family each day since He will be the one to produce godly values and fruit into your lives. As you fix your mind in Christ, meditate on God’s Word and apply it to your lives.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law”

Galatians 5:22-23

May God bless your family as you seek His will and apply biblical principles and values to your life in Christ Jesus.
