How Do I Start My Morning With God?

After waking up in the morning, many people start their day by exercising, while others immediately take a shower, brush their teeth, or eat breakfast. For a believer in God, there is no better way to start your morning than to communicate with God. 

There are many ways to talk to God. One way you can do this after waking up is to start your prayer by praising God for His unconditional love for your life, and the rest will consist of whatever other things you want to say to Him.

If you want to make a habit of praying every morning after waking up, try to do it for twenty-one days consecutively. If you’re not sure how to do it, remember that you are talking to your Creator, just like you would talk to your father; you cannot say anything wrong, so long as it’s from the heart. You can pray in an orderly manner so that you can remember everything you want to pray for.

Although there are no specific formulas on how you should start talking to God in the morning, when you don’t know what to say to Him, you can also start by giving thanks to Him for everything He has done in your life until now. “Lord, as I am here talking to you, I want to ask that you will pour blessings into my life. I ask for your divine protection and that you will provide for all my needs for the day….”

If you are nervous or afraid to make a mistake, simply remember to speak what’s in your heart and say it directly to God. He only listens to what he hears from your heart, not from the mistakes or grammatical errors of our prayers. Not only is God our master and savior, but He is also our father and friend, and you can freely talk to him.

1. Give thanks to God for everything He has done in your life

You may be going through hard times in your life or not feeling well, but you must still give thanks to the Lord for giving you another day to live and free air to breathe. With all the things that are happening in our lives, we too often forget to give thanks back to God, the giver of our lives.

You can start your prayer by thanking Him for everything He has done in your life and for the new day He has given you, as not everyone can wake up to enjoy another day. You can thank Him for all the blessings He has placed in your life and for protecting you from harm and evil ways. You should give Him thanks for being your Savior and Friend.

Even when you’re in your lowest moments, you should still give thanks to the Lord. [And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28] stresses that there’s a reason why you are experiencing hardships at the moment, and you never have to worry, as God has a plan for your life.

2. Pray for yourself

After giving thanks to the Lord for everything He has done in your life, you can start to pray for yourself. It is not a sin to pray for yourself; it is simply proof to show that you need God in your life, that you need Him in whatever you do and in whatever you hope for.

Never think that praying for yourself is selfish. As God commanded in Matthew 7:7-8, if you want to ask for wisdom or intelligence, go for it. If you need provisions or money to pay your bills, tuition, or loans, don’t be afraid to ask God to provide for your needs.

Even for the provision of your food, Matthew 6:11 states, Give us this day our daily bread, which means that you have to pray every morning that God will provide the physical food you need to get through the day. Even if you wish to eat something that you love but can’t afford to have, never hesitate to ask God for it, as He is the provider of all our needs.

You should ask God to protect you every day, as you don’t know what circumstances may come your way. In Psalms 138:7, the scripture assures us that God will protect us at all times, so long as we ask for it. 

Being a Christian does not mean that you will never face problems and troubles; as Psalms 34:19 says, Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivereth him out of them all. Being a faithful Christian does not exempt you from troubles, but trust that the Lord will guide you through those hard times.

When you pray, ask God for everything you want to have or want to happen in your life. Although some of your desires will not be granted, don’t lose hope, as God knows what His plans are for your life.

3. Pray for other people

After praying for yourself, you can now pray for other people. You should pray for your family and for their salvation; you can pray to God for their protection and that God will bless them with the things they haven’t imagined yet. You should also ask for God’s guidance in every decision they make in their lives. You should pray to God to provide for all their needs and grant all their hearts’ desires.

For your friends, classmates or workmates, and even acquaintances, pray that God will bless them and protect them from harm. Pray for God to provide for all their needs and wants. For those who are still unbelievers, pray that they will accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. It is also important to pray for other people’s salvation and not just think only of your own.

4. Pray for the nation and for the whole world

In times like these, where economies are starting to crumble, and countries are going to war, there is no better time than to pray that God will intervene in these situations. As 2 Chronicles 7:14 states, the scriptures emphasize that we must be humble and pray for God to spare our respective nations from His wrath.

You must pray that God will give our respective leaders the wisdom needed to rule a country, which is stressed in Romans 13:1-7. You should also pray that your country’s leaders will do their job with integrity, as stated in Titus 2:7-8.
