As Christians, starting the day right means beginning with prayer the moment you wake up. An early morning prayer should be one of the essential things for us as believers. You rise to greet Your Maker, bless His heart for being so good and faithful, and ask for His strength and grace throughout the day. Early morning prayer sets your eyes upon Jesus, keeping your faith strong in Him, so that nothing can stop you during the day. Praying to God as soon as you wake up also protects you against the schemes and plots of the enemy. What is a good early morning prayer? You can pray in this manner:
Heavenly Father, I praise and adore You. Thank You for waking me up once again and for blessing me with the gift of life. You protected my loved ones and myself last night, and I praise You for all that You are. May Your tangible presence be felt wherever I go as I start my day. Make Your face shine upon me and give me peace throughout the day, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
An early morning prayer can also be said in the form of Scripture. As you pray in the Spirit, allow the Holy Spirit to lead you into a Scripture that you can pray and declare for the day. For instance, this is a Scripture from Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
You may say to the LORD, “Yes LORD, I seek You above all things. You are my priority. And I trust that as I prioritize You, everything will work out for good according to your plans and purpose. You shall add all other things I may need for today, and I praise You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Which prayer can you offer God in the morning?
A good prayer to offer God in the morning is a prayer of praise and thanksgiving. When you worship God from the moment you awake, praising and thanking Him for who He is, it sets you on the path for a faith-filled day. It creates a heavenly atmosphere that sets your mood for the day and lets your eyes fix their gaze on the One who truly matters, no matter the challenges you may face in the hours to come.
There are also many Scriptures in the book of Psalms that can guide you through your morning prayer in thanking and praising God. Here are some Bible verses that make a good morning prayer and declaration:
- Psalm 105:1-3
1 O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. 2 Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works. 3 Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord.
- Psalm 116:17
I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord
- Psalm 34:1-3
1 I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. 2 My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. 3 O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.
- Psalm 86:12
I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore.
- Psalm 100:4

- Psalm 69:30

- Psalm 118:19
Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the Lord:
- Psalm 75:1

- Psalm 107:8-9
8 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! 9 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
- Psalm 7:17
I will praise the Lord according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high.
How do you pray in the Spirit?
Praying in the Spirit is one excellent way to make your day powerful and full of faith. To pray in the Spirit means being led by the Holy Spirit. He leads you into praying, in the manner of praying, and in the things you need to pray for as you wake up each morning. He may lead you to pray in tongues, pray in your natural language, or He may lead you to specific Scriptures in the Bible and let you meditate on them. We are encouraged by the Apostle Paul to pray in the Spirit on all occasions because that is a powerful and effective form of prayer. You get to be in partnership with the Holy Spirit, who makes all impossible things possible in your life and others.
If you want to pray in the Spirit early in the morning, it is best to wake up ahead of your normal time, so that you have all the time you need to spend with the Holy Spirit. You can wake up an hour earlier than your usual wake-up time so that you can spend that time with God to pray and intercede for the day.
If you seek God first thing in the morning, He promises that He shall add all the other things you need unto your life (see Matthew 6:33). Be blessed and stay in love with the LORD.
