A business will always involve competition because, in most cases, you’re not the only business operating in a given industry. However, just because there is competition doesn’t necessarily mean that you should wish for the demise of other businesses so that your business benefits. In fact, as Christians, it should be the other way around. We should pray to bless our business neighbors and seek their well-being, even if they’re hostile toward us and want to bring us down. Jesus teaches us in Luke 6:27-31 that we are to love our enemies and bless those who curse us. In other words, we are to love and show mercy even to our business neighbors, whether they are friendly or not.
Heavenly Father, You are the God who makes the sun shine on both the wicked and the righteous. I pray that just as You have shown me mercy and goodness through Your sacrifice on the cross, I shall also show the same grace towards my business neighbors, those who are both friendly and hostile. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Why should I pray for my business neighbors?
Aside from what we’ve mentioned above, we should pray for our business neighbors because God commands us to love other people. Jesus also teaches us in Matthew 5:13-16 that we are the salt and light of the world. In this case, we are to be the salt and light in our place of business. That includes being that for our business neighbors.
Being the salt means making things better. Like any other kind of salt, we use it to make something that we cook taste better. Also, in the context of Jesus, when the Scriptures were written, people used salt to preserve food. In other words, if we are to be the salt towards our neighbors, we must make things better and preserve that which is good. One of the best ways to do that is to pray for our neighboring businesses, wherein we seek their well-being and pray for them in the morning as we start our day. In 1 Timothy 2:1 (I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;), we are taught to make prayers, supplications, and intercessions for all people, which includes our business neighbors.

Lastly, we can become the light to others by pointing them toward the true light, which is Christ. That means preaching the Gospel to them and continually praying for them that they may repent and surrender their lives to Christ.
What should I pray for my business neighbors?
You should pray for the well-being of your business neighbors. Most likely, the concerns that you have and pray to God over in the morning may also be similar to their concerns. These may be things like a continuous influx of customers, effective planning and meeting, smooth business operations, problems in the business to be solved, and many other things.
One of the things you can do to know what to pray for your business neighbors is to approach them and ask them if there is anything they would like you to pray for them and their business. That will show that you care for them and are opening a door for them to open themselves to you, hopefully leading to them being discipled.
Below is an example of a morning prayer you can pray for your business neighbors:
Father in heaven, You are the God of mercy. I pray for my neighboring businesses that You will continue to show goodness to them. I pray that You will bless their business and that their businesses will flourish. Help them with their problems, and may they solve them as soon as possible. I also pray that their marketing efforts shall bear fruit. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Just because you are in a business competition doesn’t mean you should treat your fellow business neighbors as enemies. Indeed, be the best at what you are doing, but treat your fellow business neighbors with love and grace. That is one way we reflect the character of Christ to them; we should see them as fellow human beings trying to make a living with their business, not as enemies in the business world.
