How do I Pray Early in the Morning?

Early in the morning is an excellent time to connect with God. As soon as you open your eyes and fill your lungs with air, you know that you have another day to look forward to and be even better than yesterday. To make the best of every day, we should give the first part of our morning to the Father through prayers and meditation on His Word.

When you greet God with thanksgiving and praise as soon as you wake up, you can pray early in the morning in this manner:

Heavenly Father, thank You for another day and another beginning with You. Your mercies are new every morning. I look forward to experiencing Your goodness and faithfulness in my life today and seeing my family blessed in every way. Thank You for protecting us and guiding us today, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

You can pray to God early in the morning in bed before getting up, or if you have a prayer room, you can start your day there! Whichever way you do it, communicating with God first thing in the morning is what counts. The Father loves to hear His children greet Him and bless Him in the morning and connect with Him through prayer and meditation on His Word.

Moreover, you can pray early in the morning by opening your Bible and reading God’s Word. You can read from the Book of Psalms, which contains many promises, words of encouragement, thanksgiving, and praise that make for a great morning prayer, or the Holy Spirit may lead you to a specific Scripture. Praying the Scripture is an ideal way to make a powerful prayer early in the morning, as you are aligning your thoughts to God’s Word and declaring His will.

How can I pray if there are distractions in the morning?

While praying in the morning causes our day to be powerful and filled with the Holy Spirit, cases are different for some people. For instance, you may wake up to external noises in your home or neighborhood, or perhaps you have an unresolved problem that’s been lingering on your mind, and greets you as soon as you wake up. Whatever your case might be, connecting with God through your mind and heart is within your reach.

If you are experiencing physical distractions early in the morning, such as noises from the house or someone asking you to do something as soon as you wake up, allow yourself to pause and be silent. Then, quietly pray in your mind and connect with God. A simple, “Good morning, God! Thank You for waking me up today” is enough to move the Father’s heart.

Your desire to look for Him and connect with Him early in the morning is what truly matters. As for the rest, let the Holy Spirit take over.

Another way to overcome distractions, especially mental and emotional ones, is to read the Word of God first thing in the morning. When the enemy bombards your mind with attacks, often in the forms of anxieties or fears, the greatest weapon against those lies is the Word of God. God’s Word is the sword of the Spirit (see Ephesians 6:17) that pierces through every lie the enemy throws at you.

Whenever you feel distracted, know that you can convert those distractions into prayers by telling God the things that are bothering you. You can tell him what’s distracting you and ask for His grace and strength to overcome these things for the day.

You are victorious in Christ, and the enemy is a defeated foe. No matter your circumstances, as long as God reigns in your heart and mind, nothing can hinder your connection with Him.

Can I still pray in the afternoon if I forgot to pray in the morning?

As much as you may want to pray to God early in the morning, there are cases where you may suddenly need to attend to important matters, such as picking up a crying baby, giving a spouse important assistance, or taking a sudden call on your phone, which may force you to skip or forget praying early in the morning.

God wants you to know that He is aware of every situation in your life. He knows your heart and what you desire in your relationship with Him. If you forget to pray early in the morning, it’s okay with God. You can talk to Him as soon as you remember, which can be any time of day.

You can remember to pray after attending to everyone’s needs at home, taking that early phone call, etc. You can talk to the Father as soon as you remember to connect with Him. He doesn’t leave you or ignore you just for forgetting to pray early in the morning. The Holy Spirit reminds you gently, after you are done with more urgent matters.

It’s amazing to have a relationship with God where He has no constriction of time, place, or situation. He is as close as the air you breathe in and out. He is always there, waiting and listening as you pray and seek Him out. He knows everything in your life, and that is a blessed form of security.

O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. – Psalm 139:1-6
